3rd April 2017:

Both Senior Infants and First Class will begin a new literacy programme after Easter to develop fluency, confidence and success in reading.

It is called Literacy Lift Off.

Your child will have a familiar reading book in his/her folder, which she will have read in school already.

The children will also take turns bringing home a copy and a cut up sentence. Your child will have to glue in the cut up sentence underneath her own written sentence.

It is essential that the writing folder is returned the next day.

We ask you to support us by:

  • Listening to your child read her book daily.
  • Praising your child for her efforts.
  • Ensuring the book is returned to school each day.

Your support with this initiative is very much appreciated, and please feel free to ask the class teacher if you need anything clarified.

13ú Márta 2017:

This week is Seachtain na Gaeilge and in the school we will be making an extra special effort to speak “as Gaeilge” during the week. We have many different activities planned for the week including a Seó Faisin (Fashion Show), Quiz Bord (Table Quiz), Ceolchoirm (Concert), Comórtas Ealaín (Art Competition) and a Díolachán Cáca (Cake Sale).

We are hoping that you will support the school by using whatever Irish you may have with your child around the house for the week – it makes a huge difference for the children to hear the language being used in the home, no matter how simple the phrases are. I’ve listed some phrases below that you could try using.

As with previous years, the Díolachán Cáca will be hosted by the pupils of 6th class on Thursday. All money raised will be used to help fund a new literacy programme that we plan to introduce in the school after the Easter holidays. All donations of cakes, buns, biscuits etc. would be most gratefully appreciated and can be dropped off in the school on Thursday morning. The sale will be open to parents from 1.30pm.

Looking forward to seeing you on the night.

12th December 2016: Next Friday is Festive Friday, a fund-raising event being hosted by Tipp FM to raise funds for Tipperary branches of The Red Cross. Kilbarron N.S. will participate in the event. The idea is that each pupil and member of staff will wear something festive to school on Friday – a Santa hat, festive jumper, Christmas bobbin, Christmas socks, piece of tinsel etc. – and make a small donation (€1 or €2) for the charities concerned. We hope that all pupils and staff will enter into the spirit of the event.

Next Tuesday, 20th Dec., we will have our annual dance display. We will begin at 1.00pm with the Junior Classes, followed by the Middle Classes and finishing with the Senior Classes. After the dancing the school choir will sing some seasonal songs and carols. You are most welcome to come along if you can on the day.

Sincere thanks to all those who supported our Parents Association Race Night last week. It was a great success and well done to all the members of our PA for the huge amount of work they did in preparation for the night.

A reminder that the school will close for the Christmas Holidays at 12.00pm on Thursday 22nd Dec. We will re-open in the New Year on Monday January 9th.

Finally on behalf of all of the staff of Kilbarron N.S. I would like to sincerely thank you for your help and support this past year and to wish you a very happy and peaceful Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

30th November 2016: As you know pupils from 2nd to 6th classes are preparing for the Peace Proms Concert in school at the moment. Tickets for the concert will go on sale tomorrow morning, 1st Dec., at 10.00am. Please note that this concert will be oversubscribed so we would advise buying your tickets as soon as possible. Our school will be performing in Limerick on Sunday 5th March at 2.00pm. Tickets for the concert can only be bought online at www.peaceproms.com .

There will also be a rehearsal for the concert on Tuesday 7th February at 12.30pm. We will provide more details on this closer to the time.

28th November 2016: As you may already be aware this week, Nov. 26th – Dec. 2nd, is Green Schools Week in Kilbarron N.S. The children will be working on various different Green Schools themes each day during the week.

This year is a Green Flag renewal year and we are currently working on the theme of Travel i.e. promoting a more sustainable way of children getting to school – by bus, bicycle or walking where possible. In line with this theme we will be holding a “Park n’ Stride” event in school tomorrow morning. This basically involves any child who would normally travel to school by car being brought to the car park in the village for 8.50am tomorrow and then we will all walk together to school from the car park.

Finally this Friday will be “Green Friday” at school and we would encourage all the children to dress in anything green that they may have at home – the greener they are on the day the better!

30th August 2016: On behalf of all the staff of Kilbarron N.S. I would like to welcome everyone back to school and we are all looking forward to an enjoyable and productive new school year.
